Deer Park Football Club Youth Girls
player Bianca Mahkae was one of only
55 girls from across Victoria,
accepted into the Melbourne Football
Club ‘Trident Girls Football
Academy’.
Deer Park FC – in the first year of
participating in the Youth Girls
Competition are extremely proud of
the way Bianca represented the club
during her time at the academy and
can already see the benefits of the
football and life skills that she
received.
The Academy is aimed at supporting,
promoting and championing young
girls and women, playing and
administrating the game of
Australian Rules Football.
The Academy was held during the
school holidays, with 55 Youth Girls
players from around Victoria
participating in the program. The
program offered an extraordinary
experience that was designed to
enhance the girls’ football
abilities, as well as further
develop their media, communications
and leadership and skills.

“The two days that I attended the
MFC Trident academy I learnt about
things such as leadership, teamwork,
dealing with the media and careers
within the AFL”. Bianca said
“The highlight of my time was
definitely running a clinic for the
Auskick kids, teaching them how to
play football. Also making new
friends with the same interest as me
and meeting the Melbourne FC
players. In the future I can
definitely see myself having a
career within the AFL, hopefully
playing football in the league”. |

The academy was held at the MCG,
with participants undergoing a wide
range of activities to gain a
greater understanding and insight
into working within an AFL club.
Highlights of the two-day Academy
included:
1.
A full day
workshop with Leading Teams,
focusing
on leadership
development and goal setting.
2.
Media training
3.
A “Careers in
Football workshop”.
4.
A training
session with Melbourne Football Club
coaches and VWFL state players.
5.
